From the 2nd to the 6th of September 2024, the Defence and Security Committee (DSC) of the National Assembly of Seychelles attended a Benchmarking Visit to the Parliament of Tanzania. The delegation was led by the Vice-Chairperson Hon. Francois Adelaide who was accompanied by Hon. Michel Roucou, Hon. Audrey Vidot, and Hon. Doyace Porice. Assistance was provided by Committee Secretary Mrs. Gillian Samson, and Assistant Committee Secretary Mrs. Donatienne Chetty.

To begin the visit, the Committee had the opportunity to watch a Live Sitting of the Assembly, followed by a courtesy call on the Honourable Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania Dr. Tulia Ackson. A meeting of counterparts then took place between DSC and the Committee of Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, in which the two committees exchanged experiences, procedures and Terms of References which guide the Committees’ mandate.

The Members of the Defense and Security Committee also visited the Tanzania People’s Defence Force headed by Lt. General Salum Haji Othman, Inspector Geneal of Police (IGP) Camillus Wambura and Senior Officers, as well as the Commissioner General of Prisons (CGP) Jeremiah Yoram Katungu of the Tanzania Prisons Service Headquarters. The warm friendship that long exists between the Republic of Seychelles and the Republic of Tanzania was reaffirmed, and the benchmarking visit concluded with the exchange of tokens of appreciation.
