On Tuesday 6th August 2024, the Women's Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) welcomed members of the current and prior cohorts of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA), who were accompanied by Ms. Janetta Ali and Mrs. Deborah Fanchette of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC). WPC Members present included Chairperson Hon. Regina Esparon, Vice-Chairperson Hon. Audrey Vidot, Hon. Doyace Porice, Hon. Kelly Samynadin, Hon. Anne Bistoquet, and Hon. Sylvanne Lemiel. Assistance was provided by Committee Secretaries Ms. Samia Lebon and Mrs. Florette Monaie.
The primary goal of the meeting was to further focus and assist the Young Members with their motions, both tabled and pending, regarding education for women and children. The Young Members conveyed their gratitude to the WPC, noting that receiving feedback or witnessing changes as a result of their motions is not as common as they would aspire. The cohort also expressed their appreciation for the support, remarking that the SNYA has the potential to enact positive changes and leave a lasting impact on the governance surrounding the young population.
Chairperson Hon. Regina Esparon noted that this is one of many meetings with the SNYA, as part of the commitment of the WPC to engage with and develop the Youth sector in Seychelles. A future goal is the expansion of such meetings to include various representatives, such as those from pertinent Ministries, to further enrich the discussions.
