From Wednesday 31st July to Friday 2nd August 2024, the Committee for Food Security and Sustainable Development (FSSD) attended the Second Southern Africa Parliamentarian Regional Meeting on Strengthening Capacity of National Parliaments on Oversights in Climate Action Accountability and Reporting, in Windhoek, Namibia. The Committee was represented by Hon. Clifford Andre, Hon. Francois Adelaide, and Assistant Committee Secretary Ms. Cosette Songoire.
The aim of the meeting was to sensitize parliamentarians on climate risk in the region, raise awareness of the national and international commitments on climate change to which countries have signed, and to update the legislative framework on climate change inclusive of best practices and experiences. Seychelles was amongst twelve countries in the Southern African Region parliament to discuss key elements of the Legislature’s oversight and progress tracking tools in relation to Climate action, accountability, and Reporting.
Participants were also encouraged to share experiences and insights on the tools being used for the oversight and progression tracking of implementation of climate policies and climate action in their respective countries. Throughout the 3-day session, Hon. Andre and Hon. Adelaide engaged in meaningful discussions and debates covering the diverse national and international issues relating to climate change and environmental development.
