On the morning of Monday 1st July 2024, the Defence and Security Committee conducted an urgent site visit to the Seychelles New Port to inspect the armoured vehicle RG-12 which was the subject of the Private Notice Question submitted by the Leader of the Opposition Hon. Sebastien Pillay. During the Sitting of Tuesday 25th June 2024, Hon. Pillay posed the PNQ which received a reply from the Vice-President Mr. Ahmed Afif.

In lieu of this reply, the Defence and Security Committee conducted an urgent visit led by the Chairperson Hon. Clifford Andre, accompanied by Vice-Chairperson Hon. Francois Adelaide, Hon. Audrey Vidot, Hon. Michel Roucou and Hon. Doyace Porice. Assistance was provided by Committee Secretary Mrs. Gillian Samson, and Assistant Committee Secretary Mrs. Donatienne Chetty.

 

DSC Visit to Seychelles New Port

 

A tour of the vehicle RG-12, commonly referred to as ‘Nyala’, took place at the New Port where it is presently being kept. Brigadier Michael Rosette, Commissioner of Police Mr. Ted Barbe and other Officials of both Forces were present to accompany the Committee. Members of the DSC made the inspection in the presence of Military and Police Personnels including a thorough explanation and comparison of the vehicle that was initially ordered and the one that was shipped and received. An investigation is ongoing, a final report will be compiled, and all outcomes will be communicated to the National Assembly.
