Parliamentarians from across the states of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific as well as Europe, met in Maputo, Mozambique to participate in the for their participation in the 61st Session of the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) Parliamentary Assembly and the 42nd Session of the ACP-EU Joint Assembly (JPA) from 29th October to 2nd November 2022.
The National Assembly of Seychelles was represented by Hon. Clifford Andre head of delegation and Hon. Churchill Gill, who actively participated in the long 7-day sessions addressing pertinent international and regional matters. Among the issues discussed were the global challenges of cooperation in the fight against climate change, and the guarantee of market access by the OACPS countries producing raw materials, by strengthening sustainable production and the blacklisting of countries in the fight against money laundering. The parliamentarians present brought forward the urgent call for the immediate signature of the Post-Cotonou Agreement to allow the rapid entry of the instrument.
The JPA made very strong recommendations to COP27; that developed countries must respect the financial commitment of 100 billion dollars per year for developing countries and that concrete green deals be implemented to allow developing countries with access to the European Market especially for OACPS countries producing raw materials.
Hon. Andre and Hon. Gill engaged in meaningful committee meetings, discussions, and debates covering the diverse international issues relating to Finance, Trade, Climate change and OACPS-EU partnership Agreement. Hon. Andre co-chaired on behalf of The ACP the resolution on climate change in light of the COP27 which saw the plight of the developing countries and small island states in highlighting the necessity for develop countries to act now to mitigate the ongoing impact of climate change.
