Ms. Loréa Rasool, an Independent mid-wife working part time at the maternity ward, met with the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) on Wednesday 3rd November, 2021, at the National Assembly in the Member’s Lounge.
The main aim of the meeting was to acquaint the Caucus on the alarming subject of teenage pregnancy in the country and the inaccessibility of contraceptives by adolescents due to the age gap as stipulated by law.
As a health professional, Mrs. Rasool is at present working as mid-wife, she has witnessed the social impact of teenage pregnancy on the young mothers, their families and society as a whole.
The members expressed their concerns and emphasis was placed on educating the public and more commitment in child protection throughout their mandate. The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus agreed that something must be done to make a difference in protecting our young girls.
