On Friday 17th September 2021, Secretariat Staff of the National Assembly of whom have responsibilities of supporting and assisting Committees, participated in a seminar led by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA UK) and the House of Commons.
As well as providing insights into good parliamentary practice, the Seminar served to reaffirm the relationship between the National Assembly and the UK Parliament, building on the visit of the UK Delegation to Seychelles that was led by Baroness Blackstone in February 2019.
The seminar extends the mutual exchange of ideas and sharing of parliamentary expertise and the delegates heard from an excellent line up of speakers from both the National Assembly of Seychelles and the UK House of Commons regarding planning and managing Committee Business, as well as drafting impactful Committee Reports.
The seminar opened with a welcoming address from Ruth Pope, the Head of the Multilateral Projects Team at CPA UK. The attendees then explored a diverse range of parliamentary procedures and topics relating to Committee work.
The CPA connects, develops, promotes and supports Parliamentarians and parliamentary staff to identify benchmarks of good governance and the implementation of the enduring values of the Commonwealth. It brings Commonwealth Parliamentarians and parliamentary staff together to exchange ideas among themselves and with experts in various fields and to identify new policy options they can adopt or adapt in the governance of their societies.
