On Tuesday 4th February 2025, the Ambassador of Japan for Seychelles H. E Makoto SAKUTA paid a Courtesy Call on the Defence and Security Committee (DSC) of the National Assembly. The DSC was represented by Chairperson Hon. Clifford Andre and Hon. Audrey Vidot. Assistance was provided by Committee Secretary Mrs. Gillian Samson, and Assistant Secretary Mrs. Donatienne Chetty.
Hon. Andre assured the Japanese delegation that such meetings serve to reaffirm the commitment of the Committee to further strengthen the existing ties between the Seychelles and Japan, as well as building upon the friendship between the two Parliaments. Discussions were centered on maritime safety, illicit fishing, unlawful activities, climate change, and ecosystem protection. Hon. Andre outlined the role of the Committee and discussed potential exchange programmes between the Parliament of Seychelles and Japan through a dedicated friendship group.
H. E Makoto SAKUTA expressed an appreciation for the opportunity to meet, emphasizing that the importance of parliamentary exchanges was well noted for future bilateral cooperations.
