Who is an intern?
An intern is a student from a Post-Secondary or Tertiary Institution on a short-term supervised work experience with the National Assembly. This work experience is usually related to the students' specific field of study or career aspirations.
The Programme combines practical work experience with structured learning experience, aimed at achieving identified objectives of the National Assembly Secretariat.
Internship recruitment will be considered by the Senior Management Team of the Secretariat based on needs.

What is Expected of the Intern?

- Demonstrating a willingness to participate fully and actively in the learning experience by planning and executing their programme of work.
- Participating in the Orientation Programme of the Secretariat.
- Conducting themselves, at all times, in a manner that will not be detrimental to the values, images, and standing of the National Assembly Secretariat.
- Signing the Confidentiality Agreement, and keeping all information including unpublished information made known during the period of the Internship confidential.
- Discussing progress with the designated Unit Manager.
- Submitting a detailed report at the end of the Internship with the National Assembly. A copy of this report will be provided to the educational institution.
- Completing a form, signed off by the designated Unit Manager, which shows that the intern has surrendered any security/access pass, and any Secretariat property.

What are the Conditions for an Internship?

1. Internships will be restricted to no less than one month but no more than three months.
2. The Internship may begin only once a Terms and Conditions Agreement has been signed between the intern's educational institution and the National Assembly HR Unit.
3. Employment privileges may be considered on a case-to-case basis, as the intern is not an official Secretariat Staff member.
4. The intern is not eligible to enter into a consultancy with the Secretariat during the Internship period.
5. The intern can apply for a permanent position within the Secretariat following the Internship period.

What are the Obligations of the National Assembly?

1. Providing the intern with a conducive and supportive working environment.
2. Providing the necessary resources required to work throughout the full Internship period.
3. Ensuring that specific learning objectives are achieved.
4. Reviewing the performance of the intern through periodic reviews which are recorded by the HR Unit and submitted to the educational institution.
The National Assembly Secretariat reserves the right to terminate an Internship without notice if the required standards of behaviour and Code of Conduct are not met.
