On Monday 7th April 2025, The Deputy Chairperson of the Seychelles Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Mrs. Nicole Tirant-Gherardi presented the Commission’s Annual Report for the year 2024 to the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Roger Mancienne. The Deputy Chairperson was accompanied by one of the SHRC Commissioners, Mrs. Barbara Carolus- Andre. The presentation of the report is in line with the statutory obligations of the SHRC, specifically in accordance with Section 22 of the Seychelles Human Rights Commission Act, 2018.

The Hon. Speaker opened the discussion by welcoming the delegation to the National Assembly and expressing his enthusiasm to review the content of the Report following the meeting. The report provides a review of the activities of the Commission during 2024 as well as highlighting key achievements, challenges, and recommendations aimed at strengthening human rights protection in Seychelles.

Hon. Mancienne, Mrs. Tirant-Gherardi and Mrs Carolus-Andre discussed in detail matters relating to how the two institutions could foster stronger collaboration and cooperation particularly around human rights protection and advancement in Seychelles. Additionally, Mrs. Tirant-Gherardi mentioned the evolution of the work of the Commission throughout the years. Further discussions took place on the legal strategy of the SHRC and other areas such as the improvement and modernisation of certain key legislation in Seychelles.

At the end of the fruitful meeting, Hon. Mancienne commended the Commission for its efforts in advocating for human rights in Seychelles and expressed his gratitude for the ongoing work being carried out.
