The National Assembly and the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday the 6th of August, 2021 that will have a duration of two years from the date of signature.


The MoU was signed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne and the Chairman of the Board of SBC, Mr Gerard Lafortune. The Speaker was accompanied by the Chairperson of the Media, Youth and Culture Committee of the National Assembly, Hon. Wavel Woodcock, the Vice-Chairperson, Hon. Philip Arissol and the Deputy Clerk, Ms. Alexandria Faure.


The purpose of this Memorandum was to formalise an existing joint framework for continued collaboration and cooperation between the National Assembly of Seychelles and the SBC, to secure the continued good quality audio-visual coverage of the proceedings of the parliament and to support the diffusion of these proceedings to serve participatory democracy in Seychelles.


The MoU covers a range of areas such as the Broadcasting of the National Assembly Sittings, Editorial Control, Recording and Live Broadcasting, Ownership and Rights to Recordings, Communication as well as Technical and Financial Support. The Media Operations Unit of the National Assembly now have full control of the filming of the live Sittings of the National Assembly and this includes the production of programmes for the Institution. Officers in this unit operate the cameras, other video and photography devices to capture, record, broadcast and archive meetings and events.

The SBC has been instrumental at every step of this process and will remain a close partner to the National Assembly.
