The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne met with the Ombudsman, Mrs. Nichole Tirant-Ghérardi this morning in the presence of Mrs. Tracey Dine from the Office of the Ombudsman.

Mrs. Tirant-Ghérardi had the honor to present a copy of the Annual Report of the Ombudsman for the year 2021 under the Theme “An Institution in jeopardy” to Speaker Mancienne, of whom was accompanied by the Chairperson of the Media, Youth and Culture Committee, Hon. Wave Woodcock, a Member from the US Caucus Hon. Conrad Gabriel, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mrs. Tania Isaac and the Deputy Clerk, Ms. Alexandria Faure.

This act was done as part of her Constitutional duty and is stated in Article 143 (6) of the Constitution, which dictates that ‘The Ombudsman shall not later than the thirty-first January in each year make a general report to the National Assembly with a copy to the President on the exercise of the functions of the Ombudsman under this Constitution during the previous year.’

During the meeting, the Ombudsman stressed that there was a need to engage in more discussion on relevant issues concerning the Office with the National Assembly so as to raise more awareness of its role and give value to the Ombudsman’s office.  


The Speaker, Hon. Woodcock and Hon. Gabriel thanked Mrs. Tirant-Ghérardi for her work, for presenting this document to the National Assembly, and supported the need for further engagement with the Parliament on the role of the office of the Ombudsman.
