The International Affairs Committee is a Select Sessional Committee that addresses any topic associated with the national foreign service of Seychelles, the conduct of tourism, international affairs and of international parliamentary affairs.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
The Committee will:
- Review and assess the Foreign and Tourism policies and strategy of the Republic of Seychelles.
- Assess and report on the mandate and operation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Tourism to the House, as well as any other subject matter relating to international relations and global governance.
- Conduct oversight on the budget of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Tourism.
- Review and assess International Agreements, Protocols, Conventions and Treaties before Ratification and Report back to the House on any recommendations and any matters examined by the Committee.
- Maintain and establish ties with foreign parliamentary organizations.
Composition
- The Committee shall consist of seven Members appointed as per Article 104 (2) of the Constitution.
- The Committee shall elect its own chairperson as per Rule 5 of the Rules of Procedures for Committees of the National Assembly.
- The Committee shall meet at least once a month and when required.
- The Committee shall be appointed for the duration of the Session of the National Assembly.
- The Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the Committee shall be appointed by the Secretariat of the National Assembly as per Order 13 (9) of the Standing Orders, 2020.
