Hon. Valdana Sultan was born on the 26th of July 1975, and resides in Port Launay with her partner and two children.
Beginning her schooling as a young girl in Port Glaud, and then her secondary schooling at Grand Anse, Hon. Valdana formed part of the first cohort to enroll in the one-year programme of the National Youth Service (NYS) in 1992. She then earned her Diploma in Primary Education from the School of Education and Community Studies, with the ambition of becoming a teacher. She supplemented this with a second Diploma in Primary Education from the National Institute of Education.
Her career within the Ministry of Education (MOE) began in 1997, where she started as a Maths, Science and Creole PSCE Teacher. She then became the Maths, Science and Creole Subject Leader from 2013 to 2019. She then progressed in her duties and accepted the role of Deputy Headteacher for Students Support. Her last role in the field was as the Deputy Headteacher for Studies, amounting to a devoted 27 years as an educator.
During her steady teaching career within the MOE, Hon. Sultan also pursued responsibilities such as the role of Professional Development Facilitator, Chief Examiner tasked withn the preparation of National Exam Papers, the Chairperson of the Creole National Exam Vetting Panel, and as a part-time tutor at the Seychelles Institute of Teacher Education (SITE). Such roles bolstered not only her professional capabilities, but also served to deepen her ties to the community.
Hon. Sultan was awarded the District Administrator of the Year 2024 award, following a successful tenure as District Administrator for Grand Anse Mahé.
From a young age, Hon. Sultan always followed the political discourse of Seychelles and kept herself abreast of developments which impacted various communities. Throughout her life she has promoted the belief that second chances have the potential to change lives, particularly when addressing social issues such as drug reform and unemployment. Her values are aligned with the empowerment of youth and social reforms.
In her personal time, Hon. Sultan enjoys reading and interacting with her community. She is an active member of her Church and offers a listening ear to whoever needs it.
