On Monday 7th October 2024, the Food Security and Sustainable Development Committee led by its Vice-Chairperson Hon. Waven William, met with the President of the Republic of Seychelles H.E. Mr. Wavel Ramkalawan. The FSSD Committee was represented by Hon. Clifford Andre, Hon. Francois Adelaide, Hon. Norbert Loizeau, Hon. Regina Esparon, and Hon. John Hoareau. Assistance was provided by Committee Secretary Mrs. Gillian Samson, and Assistant Committee Secretary Ms. Cosette Songoire.

The purpose of the meeting, held at State House, was to discuss pertinent points regarding the public concerns of the landfill management, the prevention of frequent landfill fires, the management of the environment levy and subsequent environmental projects that are funded through this system, the introduction of the Carbon Credit, amongst others. During the discussion, the concern of foul smell from the Indian Ocean Tuna (IOT) factory was also raised, as an ongoing issue affecting the lives and businesses of those residing in the Central Victoria Region, which the FSSD Committee is inquiring into at present.
