The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne received the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Belgium, Hon. Eliane Tillieux, at the Assembly on Thursday 3rd November 2022. The Speaker was accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Gervais Henrie, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mrs. Tania Isaac and Ms. Alexandria Faure, the Deputy Clerk.
Speaker Mancienne welcomed Speaker Tillieux to the Assembly and provided an introduction on the parliamentary system in place in Seychelles. During their discussions, Speaker Tillieux highlighted the system of governance in Belgium and how the country is recovering from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Both Speakers discussed the worrying effect of Climate Change across the globe and the role of the youth as the changemakers, vocalizing the need for critical change.
Speaker Mancienne presented Speaker Tillieux with a token and wished her all the very best upon her return home. He further added that he hoped that she was enjoying her holiday in Seychelles, in which Speaker Tillieux praised Seychelles as a paradise.
The delegation also had a brief tour of the Assembly Chamber and parliamentary museum.
