On Monday 21st October 2024, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Mr. Girish Chandra Murmu paid a Courtesy Call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Roger Mancienne. Mr. Murmu was accompanied by the High Commissioner of India to Seychelles H.E. Mr. Kartik Pande, the Auditor General of Seychelles Mr. Gamini Herath, Dr. Gaurav Kumar, and the Principal Accountant General Ms. Shefali Andaleeb. Accompanying the Hon. Speaker was the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Gervais Henrie, and the Clerk Mrs. Tania Isaac.
The Hon. Speaker welcomed Mr. Murmu to the National Assembly, wishing the delegation a pleasant and productive visit to the Seychelles. Mr. Murmu, in turn, thanked the Speaker and described the moment as historic. A brief discussion of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Seychelles and India’s respective Auditor General’s offices took place, with both parties highlighting the potential for knowledge exchanges and capacity-building between the two nations.
Mr. Murmu also spoke about the benefits and challenges of managing the large population of India, noting that while it provides significant manpower, it also comes with certain constraints.
Despite the size differences, Hon. Mancienne suggested that training provided by the CAG’s office could greatly benefit Seychelles as a nation. The Speaker then thanked Mr. Murmu for his visit and took the opportunity to acknowledge India's continued support of Seychelles' national development, expressing hope for the relationship between the two nations to grow stronger.
