Another successful outreach activity in commemoration of the National Assembly’s 30th anniversary was completed on Friday 15th September 2023. The Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) delivered informative presentations to an auditorium full of eager young minds from the Seychelles Business Studies Academy (SBSA).
Members of the FPAC in attendance were the Chairperson Hon. Sebastien Pillay, Vice-Chairperson Hon. Terence Mondon, Hon. Sandy Arissol, Hon. Georges Romain, Hon. Churchill Gill, Hon. Conrad Gabriel, and Hon. Richard Labrosse with assistance from the Committee Secretary, Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Ms. Alexandria Faure, Second Secretary Ms. Shannon Surman, and Assistant Secretary Ms. Sheryl Rangasamy.
After a warm welcome, Hon. Arissol started off the series of presentations with an enlightening overview of the role of the National Assembly as the legislative branch of Government. Hon. Romain followed with a presentation introducing the audience to the FPAC and its role as the Committee tasked with oversight on public funds. The Deputy Clerk shone a light on the National Assembly service through her presentation based on the role of the parliament’s secretariat and committee support staff. Hon. Churchill Gill closed the presentations by providing the students with interesting information on the necessary stakeholder relationships required for the success of the FPAC.
An interactive session chaired by Hon. Pillay followed, with interesting questions from both the teachers of the SBSA and the students. Each of the Members were able to provide words of wisdom and encouragement to the students regarding their responsibilities to themselves and their education. Overall, the activity was considered a very fruitful success.
