On Saturday the 21st of November, 2020, a few Members of the Media Youth and Culture Committee (MYCC), notably the Chairperson – Hon. Wavel Woodcock and Hon. Kelly Samynadin, attended the Sitting of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA). The new Committee has spearheaded and launched its outreach activities by engaging with the SNYA.

The Committee did this as a familiarisation process to better understand the work and composition of the SNYA under the direction of the new Chair to the Committee and Members that were previously not a part of the MYCC.

The MYCC wishes to be actively involved in matters relating to youth activities, outreach and development and the Members wish to be more involved in matters that greatly affect the youth.

This visit was also a move towards empowering young people to be more engaged in what happens in their communities. The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) states that “Young people are the future of any democracy. Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and they can already bring new ideas to solving the world’s problems.” It is for this reason that the MYCC strives to ensure that the Youth’s voice does not go unheard.
