The House Committee will be concerned with the proper functioning and development of the National Assembly. It will consider matters and related issues brought to its attention and report to the House and appropriate bodies of the Assembly for policies to be formulated and actions to be taken in the best interest of the National Assembly.

Tasks & Responsibilities

The Committee will review, assess or enquire into, and propose recommendations on the following matters, with due regard to and not to encroach upon Standing Orders and the National Assembly Privileges and Immunities Act:

  1. General Policies on the Conduct of Members and issues of Conflict of Interest that may affect the image and reputation of the House – not to include any consideration or adjudication of individual cases.
  2. Rights and Privileges of Members.
  3. Welfare of Members including issues contained in existing legislation and policies.
  4. Services and facilities for Members, Guests and Visitors.
  5. Structure and organization of the House.
  6. General procedures and practices not related to Assembly Business in Chamber.

Composition

  • The Committee shall consist of seven Members appointed as per Article 104 (2) of the Constitution.
  • The Committee shall meet at least once a month, or as and when required.
  • The Committee shall be appointed for the duration of the Session of the National Assembly.
  • The Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly shall serve as secretary of the House Committee, and shall designate any member of staff as Assistant Secretary.
