As part of its ongoing preparation before embarking on the project entitled: “Enhancing Coastal and Marine Socio-Ecological Resilience and Biodiversity Conservation in the Western Indian Ocean”, Nature Seychelles made a presentation to the International Affairs Committee (IAC) on the Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs) on Wednesday 18th December 2019.
The project is being funded by the German International Climate Initiative (IKI) through the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and coordinated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), covering Mozambique and Seychelles at site and policy levels, Kenya and Tanzania at policy levels only. For Seychelles, the project will be implemented by Nature Seychelles in collaboration with IUCN. The site selected is the Port Launay Marine Park.
A power point presentation was conducted by Mr. Nirmal Shah – Chief Executive Officer for Nature Seychelles and he was accompanied by Ms. Elizabeth Wuganga Mwambui – Communication Manager and Mrs. Thembie Manjengwa – Project Coordinator.
The presentation was found to be of great interest to the IAC Members who had a chance to exchange their views and made some positive suggestions. The Members in general would like to be kept informed on the progress and are willing to attend related meetings with stakeholders when organized.
