A delegation from the National Assembly of Seychelles head by the Speaker Hon. Nicholas Prea and other Members including Hon. Waven William, Hon. Jany Letourdie, Mrs. Tania Isaac the Desk Officer for IPU and Mr. Marlon Esparon the Speaker of the Youth Assembly is attending the 141st Inter- Parliamentary Union ( IPU) General Assembly taking place in Belgrade Serbia from 13th to 17th October, 2019. The overall theme of this Assembly is ” Strengthening international law: Parliamentary roles and mechanisms and the contribution of regional cooperation “.
Speaker Prea met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia H.E Ms. Maja Gojkovic for a courtesy call on his arrival to the Capital on the 11th October.
Side meetings kicked off on Saturday the 12th with the SADC regional meeting and the Africa Group meeting to discuss vacancies on various Committees of IPU including the Executive Committee. It should be noted that Seychelles submitted its candidature for the latter post by nominating Hon. Waven William. But Seychelles conceded to the Speaker of Zimbabwe who was unanimously voted to represent the SADC region.
The delegation is today attending the Parliamentary Women’s Forum and supporting Hon. Jany Letourdie who will deliver her speech on the theme ” Achieving universal health coverage by 2030: The role of parliaments in ensuring the right to health”.
