The Department of Trade of the Ministry of Finance, Trade, Investment and Economic Planning facilitated the meeting for the delegates from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO) to meet with the International Affairs Committee (IAC) for the purpose of providing a presentation on Intellectual Property (IP) and the African Regional Intellectual Property Organization (ARIPO).

Jean-Francois Ferrari – Chairman – IAC, Hon. Flory Larue – IAC Member, Hon. Churchill Gill – IAC Member, Hon. Noline Sophola – IAC Member, Hon. Waven William – IAC Ex-Officio, Hon. Mr. dos Santos and Ms. Nhane briefed the Members present on their work and the benefits and assistance they have been providing. It was an occasion to sensitize the members on the subject and to also create awareness on the benefits of good administration of Intellectual Property (IP). It is to be noted that Seychelles has already received substantial assistance from WIPO, especially in terms of an IP Automated System set up at the Registration Division in Victoria, a tool which has proven to be very effective as was pointed out by Mrs. Pierre, Registrar General.
WIPO also offers various professional scholarships/training and online courses that are free of charge in the fields of IP to participants from all member states countries.
Seychelles is a Member of WIPO and is yet to join ARIPO.
Members had a fruitful interaction and discussed and exchange their views as to future cooperation with WIPO.
