A delegation of the National Assembly headed by the Speaker Hon. Nicholas Prea, met with the European Union Ambassador, H.E Mrs Marjaana Sall and the Ambassadors of the EU Member States for a political dialogue earlier this morning.
In the presence of over 30 Ambassadors of EU Member States, the Speaker accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Hon, Ahmed Afif, the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Charles De Commardmond, the Chairperson of the International Affairs Committee, Hon. Jean-Francois Ferrari and the Vice Chair, Hon Clifford Andre participated in discussions focusing on areas of common interests, as well as current issues in fisheries, climate change, maritime security and in trade cooperation.
Throughout the discussions, it was highlighted that the strong ties with the EU could be further enhanced by allowing Parliament, as the representatives of the people to engage much earlier in negotiations leading to relevant ratification.
The delegation of the National Assembly also comprised of Members of the International Affairs Committee, Hon. Flory Larue, Hon. Jude Valmont, Hon. John Hoareau and Hon. Waven William, as well as the Clerk of the National Assembly, Ms. Jutta Alexis and the Deputy Clerk, Mrs. Tania Isaac
