On Thursday 15th February, the Truth & Reconciliation Committee, chaired by Hon. Wavel Ramkalawan, met with Mr. Richard Rogers, an international human rights Lawyer. Working sessions took place whereby Mr Rogers has been assisting the Committee with the drafting of the Model law that is to be presented to the National Assembly together with the final report of the Committee.
The next step would be for the Committee to present the report to the National Assembly and if it is adopted, the report together with the proposed law will be sent to President Danny Faure.
On Friday 16th February Mr. Rogers also called on President Faure accompanied by the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Truth & Reconciliation Committee, Hon. Ramkalawan and Hon. Decommarmond respectively. President Faure welcomed Mr. Rogers to State House and commended the two leaders for the bipartisan approach on this very important work which will lead to the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The President thanked Mr. Rogers for his valuable contribution and support given to the Committee.
On the same day, the delegation also met with the British High Commissioner, H.E Caron Rohsler, whereby the discussions were centered on resources from the Commonwealth which can be tapped into for the setting up and operations of the Commission.
