The National Assembly Opens its Doors for a Special Visit from the Speakers & Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth

The 24th Conference of Speakers & Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) which was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Seychelles, H.E Mr Danny Faure on Tuesday morning had a special visit to the National Assembly this afternoon.

The Delegations were welcomed by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Prea, the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Charles De Commarmond, Hon. Jean-Francois Ferrari, Hon. Ahmed Afif, the Clerk, Ms. Jutta Alexis, the Deputy Clerk, Mrs Tania Isaac and the Secretariat of the National Assembly.

All the Speakers & Presiding Officers accompanied by their Clerks and Parliamentary officials were able to visit the Parliamentary Museum and the Chamber where all the Debates take place.

The CSPOC conference brings together the Speakers and Presiding Officers of 22 bicameral parliaments and 30 unicameral parliaments – a total of 74 members from 52 nations. As well as participating in Working Sessions and Plenaries, focusing on different topics of discussions on matters of Parliament the delegations were able to visit the National Assembly of Seychelles and ask questions about how the Assembly functions and got a special tour of the Parliamentary Museum.

The conference is an independent group which aims to maintain, foster and encourage impartiality and fairness on part of the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the parliaments. The Conference provides a forum for the sharing and of parliamentary best practices and fruitful collaborations across national parliaments of the Commonwealth States.
