The Leader of Opposition from the National Assembly of Seychelles, Hon. Wavel Ramkalawan formed part of the Pan African Parliament delegation at the high level African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) Parliamentary Summit that lasted two days.
An honour for the Republic of Seychelles and showcasing the work of the Members of the National Assembly that has been recognized on an international level, Hon. Ramkalawan was amongst three Parliamentarians from Africa who formed part of the final resolution drafting team, which once finalized was submitted to the African Union and European Union Heads of State.
‘Evolution in a manner that encapsulates economic empowerment of the African continent’ was at the centre of the views of the African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) Parliamentarians who were gathered in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire for the Parliamentary Summit. The Pan African Parliament (PAP) and the European Parliament (EP) held a Parliamentary forum ahead of the 5th African Union – European Union (AU-EU) Summit in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, whereby the AU & EU Partnership was discussed alongside the central focus on investing in Youth, which is a key priority for the AU and the EU as 60% of the African population is under the age of 25. The Parliamentarians also agreed on the need to reset the relationship between the two continents.
In his opening address, the President of the Pan African Parliament, H.E Roger Nkodo Dang expressed that finding solutions to the challenges faced by the African continent must be a shared responsibility. The President of the continental legislature believes that the current partnership must be re-examined in accordance with realities and the aspirations of the peoples from the two continents.
