THE FINANCE AND PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE ATTENDS THE SADCOPAC ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
A delegation from the Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) of the National Assembly of Seychelles attended the five-day ‘11th Southern African Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committee (SADCOPAC) Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting’ held in Lusaka, Zambia from 1st to 5th September, 2014.
The conference held under the theme ‘Enhancing Development through Oversight of Public Procurement: the Role of Public Accounts Committees’ gathered parliamentarians from the sixteen member states of the SADCOPAC. The FPAC was represented by Hon. Marc Volcere, accompanied by the Secretary to the Committee, Ms. Luisa Waye-Hive.
Throughout the conference, delegates considered the various challenges and risks within public procurement and the need for Public Accounts Committees to have greater oversight over public procurement and to curb corruption.
The Conference also saw the election of Office Bearers of the Governing Council of the SADCOPAC for the period 2015-2017 in which Seychelles was elected as the Treasurer, to be represented by the Chairperson of FPAC, Hon. David Pierre.
In addition, Hon. Volcere also had the opportunity to deliver a presentation on the progress achieved with the implementation of resolutions adopted during the last annual conference held in Tanzania in September, 2013.
