The National Assembly is facilitating the participation of two members of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) in the 3rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Youth Meeting which will be hosted by the Parliament of Zambia from 24th to 28th August, 2014.
Mr. Rudy Sinon, SNYA representative of the Plaisance district and Ms. Nissa Payet from the School of Advance Level Studies received their airfares tickets today, from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Patrick Herminie in a short ceremony held at the National Assembly Secretariat in the presence of the Ag. Clerk to the National Assembly, Ms. Shelda Commettant.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), Mrs. Vicky Van Der Westhuizen and Mrs. Jeanetta Ali, Programme Development Officer at the Council were also present.
Speaking to the two participants, the Speaker urged them to be the Youth Ambassadors for Seychelles and to display positive attitude through their contributions and interventions.
The Speaker said that this programme should be taken as an opportunity to share and learn best practices from other youths in Africa and that they are expected to come with additional skills and knowledge to share with other youths in Seychelles.
“From such experiences, you will be expected to contribute a hand in the fight against social ills amongst the younger generation” said the Speaker.
On behalf of the youth parliamentarians, the CEO Mrs. Van Der Westhuizen thanked the Speaker and the National Assembly for providing, once again, the SNYA the opportunity to participate in such forum. She praised the good relationship between the National Assembly and the SNYC and remains hopeful that such collaboration will be maintained.
During the three-day programme, participants of the CPA Youth Meeting will debate several issues affecting the youths in Africa including the role of the young people in championing gender equality, entrepreneurship in solving unemployment challenge and boosting the economy, as well as the impact of tourism on the economy of Africa.
The participation of Mr. Sinon and Ms. Payet in the CPA Youth programme is being financed by the National Assembly of Seychelles.
