THIS WEEK IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
The Minister for Environment and Energy, Prof. Rolph Payet will be in the National Assembly this week, to answer ten questions. These will include questions regarding the status of the Land field at Providence, the Water Management Plan for the next ten years and the Ministry’s plan to make available essential utility facilities on Zone 18 at Providence.
The Minister for Home Affairs and Transport, Mr. Joel Morgan will also be present in this week’s sitting to present the Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill, 2014 and the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, 2014.
The Misuse of Drugs (Amendment) Bill, 2014 proposes several amendments including the introduction of stringent controls on precursors and strengthening of provisions relating to presumption of trafficking.
The Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill, 2014 seeks to enhance the sentencing powers of the senior and other magistrates to impose maximum terms of imprisonment of 25 years and 18 years respectively and maximum levels of fines of up to Rs 250, 000 and Rs 125,000, respectively.
