YOUTH PARLIAMENTARIANS TO PARTICIPATE IN CPA YOUTH MEETING IN MALAWI

The National Assembly is facilitating the participation of two members of the Seychelles National Youth Assembly in the 2nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Youth Parliament which will be hosted by the Parliament of Malawi from 22nd to 24th August, 2013.

Mr. Anil Bacco, a student from the English River Secondary School and Ms. Isha Hoareau from the School of Advance Level Studies received their airfares tickets yesterday, from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Patrick Herminie in a short ceremony held at the Secretariat in the presence of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Ms. Azarel Ernesta. The Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), Mrs. Vicky Van Der Westhuizen and Mrs. Jeanetta Ali, Programme Development Officer at the Council were also present.

Speaking to the two participants, the Speaker urged them to be the Youth Ambassadors for Seychelles and to display positive attitude through their contributions and interventions. The Speaker said that this programme should be taken as an opportunity to share and learn best practices from other youths in Africa.

On behalf of the youth parliamentarians, the CEO Mrs. Van Der Westhuizen thanked the Speaker and the National Assembly for the support they have consistently given the Youth Parliament of Seychelles and she joined the Speaker in urging the two young parliamentarians to promote through good example, the national flag.

During the two-day programme, participants of the CPA Youth Parliament will debate several issues affecting the youths in Africa including hunger and its impact on the future generation, the consequences of youth migration towards development and the impact of modern ICT on the development of the youth.

The participation of Mr. Bacco and Ms. Hoareau in the CPA Youth programme is being financed jointly by the National Assembly of Seychelles and the Parliament of Malawi.
