The National Assembly of Seychelles admitted to the Association of Secretaries-General/Clerks of Parliaments
The National Assembly of Seychelles is now a member of the Association of Secretaries-General/Clerks of Parliaments (ASGP).
A consultative body of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU); the ASGP seeks to facilitate personal contacts between holders of the office of Secretary-General/Clerk in any parliamentary assembly. It is the task of the Association to study the law, procedure, practice and working methods of different Parliaments, to propose measures for improving those methods and for securing co-operation between the services of different Parliaments.
The ASGP admitted the National Assembly of Seychelles to the Association on 1st April, 2012 in a meeting of its Executive Committee held during the 126th IPU Assembly, in Kampala, Uganda.
Attended by delegates from over 100 national parliaments, the Assembly met under the general theme ‘Parliaments and People: Bridging the Gap’, where delegates held discussions on the means by which parliaments can become more transparent and accountable.
The IPU Assembly also launched the ‘Global Parliamentary Report’; a joint effort between the IPU and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which analyses changes in relations between parliaments and citizens, and suggests improvements to parliamentary strategies for meeting public expectations.
The National Assembly of Seychelles was represented at the Assembly by Hon. Mirena Souris, the Member for Beau- Vallon, accompanied by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Ms. Azarel Ernesta.
