WOMEN MNAS PARTICIPATE IN TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP
A three-member delegation of the National Assembly is taking part in the SADC Transformative Leadership Training Workshop for women parliamentarian to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The workshop will begin on 26th and will end on 28th January, 2011.
The delegation comprises of Hon. Ginette Gamatis, Hon. Mitcy Larue and Hon. Jane Carpin.
The objectives of the workshop are to present and unpack SADC Gender Policies, and strategies useful for advancing women’s participation and involvement; to locate the role of women leaders in creating the change and the transformation necessary for gender equality; and to build the confidence and the capacity of women parliamentarians on principles of leadership.
The participation of women in political and decision making positions is one of the critical areas of concern in the SADC region. It has been consistently demonstrated globally that the under-representation of women in political and decision making positions has an adverse effect on national development as a whole. Therefore, providing empowerment and transformational training to the women leaders is very critical, as it provides them with skills and information necessary to advocate for more effective gender equality and development programmes.
