THIS WEEK IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
Members of the National Assembly will, on Tuesday, debate the Export of Fishery Products (Amendment) Bill, 2010, which will be presented to the Assembly by the Minister for Investment, Natural Resources and Industry, Mr. Peter Sinon.
One of the amendments that the Bill is proposing is to transfer the responsibilities of the Director of Veterinary services to the Chief Executive of the Seychelles Bureau of Standard. In addition, the Bill will provide for the establishment of a Fish Inspection and Quality Control Unit and its mandate will be to ensure compliance with standard of quality required particularly in international trade. It also seeks to provide for the protection of confidential information, avoidance of corruption and protection of official act done in good faith.
The Minister for Health, Mrs. Erna Athanasius, too, will be in the Assembly for Question Time to answer 8 questions.
Members will then consider two Motions. The first Motion will be moved by Hon. Marie-Louise Potter, Leader of Government Business. The Motion is calling for the National Assembly to ratify the African Youth Charter.
Hon. David Pierre, proportionate Member – SNP, will table the second Motion which is asking the government to restructure the Utility Company, PUC with the aim to maximize its resources and hence, be more effective.
