IPU to facilitate workshop to further strengthen the Assembly Committee System
The National Assembly in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will hold a one-day workshop under the theme “Making Parliament more effective through a strong committee system” on 31st August, 2010 at the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) conference room, Latanier road. The workshop will be facilitated by two experts from the IPU, Hon. Federick Opare-Ansah and Hon. Peter Lilienfeld. The workshop is a culmination of a one week review of the committee system in Seychelles by the two experts.
The two experts, today, conducted a training session on the nature and procedure of committee work for staff working with the Assembly’s committees.
During the one week, they met with Officials of the Assembly which included the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Patrick Herminie, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wilby Lucas, the two Leaders in the Assembly, Hon. Marie-Louise Potter and Hon. Wavel Ramkalawan, the Vice President Mr. Danny Faure, the Ag Deputy Clerk, Ms. Azarel Ernesta as well as the committee Chairpersons and Members.
Meetings have also been held with the Secretary of State, Cabinet Affairs, Mr. Mohammed Afif, the Auditor General, Mr. Marc Benstrong and the Chairman of LUNGOS, Mr. Bernard Elizabeth.
It is to be noted that Seychelles became a member of the IPU in March this year during the 122nd IPU General Assembly held in Bangkok, Thailand which was attended by Speaker Herminie.
