The Finance and Public Accounts Committee is the institutional mechanism for examining the report on the accounts of Government and reporting on the effectiveness and efficiency of public financial management by ensuring transparency and accountability.
In addition, all Accounts and Financial Statements laid upon the Table of the House in respect of Statutory Bodies, Public Corporations and Public Companies that are supported by Government with money withdrawn from the Consolidated Fund, are referred to the Finance and Public Accounts Committee for examination and report. The Committee may also receive referrals from the National Assembly and the Auditor General to undertake inquiries.

The Committee is further assisted in its work by a Secretary, Mr. Godfra Hermitte, a Secretary Assistant, Mrs. Florette Dufresne.
For the first time in 2012, the FPAC produced its first report on the examination of the report of the Auditor General. This is considered as the Annual Report of the Committee, however aside from its Annual Report the FPAC has the mandate to scrutinize the Performance Audit Reports of the Auditor General of a particular Ministry, Department or Agency which is financed by the Government with public money. The Committee has the power to call in witnesses for questioning or conduct hearings in relation to a particular report that is being examined. This process started in 2012 with the examination of the Reports of the Auditor General.
